4. GI Quantum Computing Workshop
The GI Quantum Computing Workshop 2025 took place on September 19th and brought together researchers, practitioners, and innovators to explore the latest developments in quantum technologies. As the annual meeting of the German quantum computing community, the workshop provided a comprehensive platform for knowledge exchange and collaboration. In line with the festival’s overarching theme of openness and accessibility in a digitally networked world, this year’s program highlighted how open access, open data, and open-source principles can accelerate innovation, strengthen collaboration, and broaden the impact of quantum technologies across disciplines.
The workshop opened with a keynote from Ingolf Wittmann, who discussed current and future quantum computing technologies and solutions. The program then continued with a presentation by Daniel Müssig and Sukanya Sukanya on a QAOA pipeline enhanced by machine learning and stochastic optimization, before turning to practical applications in the industrial context with Markus Zajac’s talk on quantum hardware recommendations. Methodological and theoretical advances were also covered, including Oliver Hüttenhofer’s work on ancilla-free circuit construction for Gaussian convolutions and Marc Maußner’s study on the robustness of quantum machine learning against adversarial noise.
After the lunch break, the focus shifted to compilation and integration approaches, with Robert Wille presenting a modular quantum compilation infrastructure leveraging MLIR, and Wolfgang Mauerer addressing system-level integration of quantum accelerators through hardware/software co-design. The day concluded with Martin Sachenbacher’s exploration of strategies for monitoring and diagnosing quantum digital twins.
With its diverse program and strong emphasis on openness, the GI Quantum Computing Workshop 2025 proved to be a catalyst for exchange and innovation, underlining the importance of collaboration in advancing quantum technologies in Germany and beyond.
